Dear Fellow Health
Enthusiast,
That's the shocking truth; eventhough we already know a lot
about nutrition &
health. Lemme elaborate.
Just like you, I have also suffered more than my share of hype
over
here : whether it was about the latest fad diet (Atkins, Gain
Muscle-mass ...)
or a new hip
supplement (pycnogenol, what-have-you...).
You may also have succumbed to some of these only to find that they
hardly
ever work. Worst still, they may actually be damaging your liver etc.
while you think otherwise. And the next year
yet another "new breakthrough" will get hyped up in the
media.
But that was until I
chanced upon this primal insight. It exposes the most critical
ingredient missing
from our plates today.
And to my utter dismay, very few know about it - even
fewer actually on-goingly partake it, even though it's the ultimate
determinant of our vitality & youthfulness. I think
that's
because it's not something that can be commercially exploited by the
big companies. As a
matter of fact we all get it for FREE - though some still prefer to pay
for it.
And once you
discover it
you will also agree that this meta-diet will always over-shine anything
that may ever show up in your nutritional radar.
A personal
anecdote is
in order.
Blissfully
ignorant that an epiphany of no small magnitude awaits me, I
walked up to this 'Holistic
Fair'
several years back, only to be accosted by a young lady right after the
entrance. She claimed to be a qualified nutritionist & pitched
for 2 bottles of multi-enzyme
capsules along with a free blood-test then & there to
prove its efficacy. Somewhat incredulously I condescended for
the non-obligatory offer.
I was hustled before someone wearing a white
lab-coat. He quickly sterilized the tip of my finger
& pricked it with a disposable needle. After dabbing off the 1st
drop of blood, he pressed the bleeding finger tip onto
a microscope slide. I
carefully watched as he diligently covered the scarlet blood
drop with a circular transparent slip without
adding anything else into the blood drop - no chemical, no powder,
fixative, stain etc.
The slide was placed under one of the microscopes at the end of the
stall and I was invited to have a peek at it. Pressing the
disinfectant-soaked cotton-wool against my finger I proceeded
curiously
& peeped through the eye-piece.
Our conversation thereupon went as follows -
He : Do you see the red
'balls' there?
Moi : Yes, I do...
quite a few of them.
He : They are your Red
Blood Cells (RBCs).
Moi (nodding my head
casually) :
I
know.
He : Just notice how
they are organised.
Moi
(non-chalantly)
:
Well, I see a few bunches
here & there ...
He (with
a self-assured tone : Yep, just remember that until
your next round.
The young lady reappeared immediately & asked me to pop-in 3 of
those enzyme
capsules.
"3?" I protested.
She shoved-in a plastic-glass full of water into my hands
& I meekly obliged.
Looking at her watch she requested : "Just be back by 1.30
pm. Please don't eat anything until then."
"Can't even drink water?" "Yes
you can." she nodded.
That left me with 90 minutes; Off I went & had a blast of a
time
with some of the very
interesting stalls there - I was new to this entire 'new-age movement'
& it was like a 'kid-in-a-toy-store'
experience for me.
Midway
through this 'Alice-in-wonderland' jaunt I started feeling
hunger pangs... but suddenly remembered
my
promise to them. It was about time so I quickly
traced my way back for the post-enzyme
blood test wondering what's the point if it takes 3
pricy
capsules to give me a few hours of health-nirvana whatever
that
may be.
By now the stall was crowded so I had to wait a
while for my turn. Different finger - new needle - same prick.
I remained
watchful to
make sure they dun play any tricks with my
blood
sample this time round as well.
So there I was, positioned before the microscope, not knowing
what cometh my way. With my eyes squinted, the moment
I peeped through the lens my
feet instantly grew roots
into the ground.
Time stood still & I just
couldn't believe my
eyes.
Oblivious of other brethren queued behind me I just
couldn't take my eyes of the scope. My body stood motionless but the
brain was in hyper-drive scampering to
make the
most of those few seconds I had for studying the slide; recalling
&
comparing with
the image I saw in the 1st test less
than 2 hours ago. The
difference was simple but STARK.
"Holy cow! This is scary" I
muttered - what I saw had hit me hard.
The nutritionist
had to nudge me out of the queue. "Did you
notice the difference?" she enquired with a
half-smile. I just had to acknowledge the blunt
on-the-face empirical evidence & she triumphantly went on to
recap the
mighty benefits of her multi-enzyme
caps. She
was expecting an easy sale before moving on for the next kill.
And man... was I
zapped?
I didn't buy
any of
her capsules. Instead walked away grimly leaving
her a bit taken aback.
I felt something
amiss & didn't want to make an
impulsive
purchase & then regret it later for having been taken
for a ride. I just couldn't fathom the idea of
having to
depend on daily intake of pricy enzyme
capsules for the rest of my life to keep
by RBCs from collapsing together.
God /
Nature couldn't have designed such a faulty body I reasoned!
But I was definitely shaken and couldn't wait to do my
due-diligence
before
coming to any conclusions about this. "What the hell
has my blody been
going through all along? .. & I never even realized it? Nobody
told me
this! This is scandalous"... I
felt cheated.
I was also a bit
sceptical
about this entire
episode & even doubted the integrity of the nutritionist
& her gang
there.
"I
gotta dig
to the bottom of
this" I resolved.
And that's what I did. Lo & behold - the nutritionist was
right! Well almost... just
that she
gave me but half the perspective. The part that served her (employer)
commercially. Fair enough! That still leaves me with all the
gratitude for bringing me face-t-face with this big gloomy 'revelation'
that set me on to subsequently
discover the complete picture I am sharing with you right now.
That
singular
interaction caused me to unearth the ideal
diet for anyone, anywhere, anytime, any-budget. It will
catapult your understanding &
appreciation of
human nutrition to a level way beyond the hype-driven
masses & the vehement cess-pool that goes by the name
of "health-industry" - a predominantly redundant
& largely expoitative establishment (in my
perception).
It's a diet
that proclaims the demise
of all generic multi-vitamins
& anti-oxidants forever.
It's the smartest way
to maximise leverage of the very design
of nature & the mechanism of life itself. It also has its place
of pride in
the glorious medical traditions of the orient dating eaons back in
time. It is also the
best
solution for the ongoing food crisis.
So
bowled
over I was with what I found that I just had to do
whatever it takes to adopt that diet in my life & see the
results for
myself. For the next few years - I worked towards that. Did I trip
& fell at times? (Ouch!)
Taarak

excitement is unique and refreshing.
Ok, Are you ready to roll-up your
sleeves to
get
into the nitty-gritty now?
We'll start with the basics 1st
:
Our blood has many types of cells
- of which the RBCs are the most numerous & most
important.
Their primary job is to carry
oxygen
(O2) to all our tissues besides removal of metabolic wastes
& carbon-dioxide
(CO2) back to the lungs.
O2 diffuses
into
RBCs through
their surface membranes.
All RBCs have a negative charge on their
surface. The resulting
electrostatic repulsive
forces between them keeps them apart as shown in this
figure -

What you see above is the ideal
state of
all RBCs in our blood (as is the
case for a healthy infant, animals in the wild & those adults
who partake an enzyme-rich
diet). This
mutual repulsion between ALL the blood cells and the capillary walls
contributes a lot towards keeping
the blood flowing freely & easily with optimum
velocity
& momentum through
our veins & arteries.
So
are you ready for the epiphany now?
Hold
your breath ...
In the 1st test I saw my RBCs somewhat like

And to my utter amazement, this is what the enzyme capsules

Wow! Now wasn't that amazing? All
cells
un-collapsed miraculously & were restored
back as individual isolated cells floating independently well-separated
from
each other.
What's
the impact of this RBC
coagulation?
Oh
that's a long sad tale...
Obviously the total oxygen carrying
capacity of all our RBCs put
together depends on their total exposed
surface area for the O2
to
diffuse inside them through the cell membranes.
So if they are all glued together like a bunch of grapes then ofcourse
the
total surface area actually available to assimilate O2
is that of
the entire bunch which is much
less than
what's possible when the cells are well spread out. Lots
of cells remain hidden fully or partially within the bunch &
are not available for
O2 to enter. These bunches float around
with much less oxygen
than the actual total capacity of all the cells.
The above limitation also
applies to CO2
transportation back to the
lungs.
Poor oxygenation &
inadequate waste removal cause Fatigue & Lethargy
(dizziness in extreme cases), besides other maladies described further.
This thickening of blood makes the entire
circulatory system sluggish.
The thinnest of our capillaries are
only
marginally wider than the diameter
of a single RBC as shown in this figure -

So any RBC clumping will tend to
block
the thin capillaries causing ischemia
(localized anaemia) -
this goes undetected in most of the places most of the time until
it's a bit
late because those parts of the body have been suffering for quite a
while by
the time the damage becomes evident.

(which by the way further slows down the speed of blood flow).
A tardy blood circulation increases the
odds of undigested foods
(calcium, cholesterol, etc) getting deposited wherever it can (arterial
& venous walls, joints, other nooks & corners all over
our body); Toxifying our
body &clogging our blood
vessels slowly but surely.
All the body tissues depend on our
blood
for the delivery of all the
nutrients to them & to carry their metabolic wastes back to our
excretory
system (kidneys, lungs etc). A compromised & tardy circulatory
system
directly impacts the health & vibrancy of each
& every cell in
our body including the brain (which utilizes 20% of
the oxygen &
nutrients transported by our blood).

biological terrain acidic. Medical scientists (for ex. Nobel laureate Prof.
Otto Warburg) agree
that cancer
thrives in such oxygen deficient conditions.
The ideal health-enhancing pH
level of
our blood is alkaline - once it
is disturbed - our body pays dearly for that (For

about this, check out my lambast on the "alkaline-diet" brigade in the Primal Health-Bites
newsletter).
This morbid devitalized internal
milieu
also favours the growth of fungi, bacteria, viruses
& other parasites -
because they can survive with much less oxygen.
Why do
the RBCs stack up like a deck of coins?
I was shocked when the nutritionist told me matter-of-factly
that the sole
culprit behind our RBCs sticking together is ...
our food.
But we were not in the space as to how & why our diet
causes all
this. So I just had to go back &
dig
deeper to solve this part of the puzzle.
And
here's what I discovered : -
Raw foods like salads, fruits
&
veggies (including non-veg stuff) inherently have all the enzymes
needed for their total digestion inside ourdigestive
system.
But
the moment they are subjected to temperatures beyond 39.5 oC
/
103oF (while cooking) - all the enzymes in that
food gets denatured &
dysfunctional.
As soon as any food minus
its enzymes
reaches our tummy - our body is
forced to produce the enzymes
neccessary to digest it.
Not just that, since our enzymes
are "applied externally" to the cooked-food mass, they fail to
thoroughly mix with the ingested food. (Apparently we don't have a
churner/mixer inside our stomach & intestine to do that.) Also,
the amount of digestive enzymes our body supplies may not
be enough.
Consequently a
significant portion of the food absorbed from the intestine into our
blood-stream is only half-digested. Since undigested portions of the
food cannot be utilized by the body they float around or just get
deposited here
& there.
They pollute
the blood & strip
away the
negative charge from the surface of RBCs & capillary
walls.
Without the charge the RBCs stack-up like a
deck of coins. This phenomenon of RBC
clustering is referred to as 'Rouleau'
in medical
jargon
And mind you, I was barely in my late 20s & in great
shapehealth-wise, when I saw my blood all coagulated.
Imagine the gravity of the situation for older folks..
Anyways, popping in a generous amount of enzymes (in the capsules)
helps
to scavenge the "crap" floating around in the
blood-stream. Their disappearance immediately restores the
mutually-repulsive negative charge back on the
walls of red blood cells & that of the capillaries.
Makes sense?
But these enzyme supplements cannot get rid of the stuff already stuck
on the walls of the blood vessels & in the nooks &
corners of our body. Hence it's not
a complete
solution.
"Well,
if the situation inside of us is so grim
then everyone would have already known
about it...Doctors would be warning us & the
mass-media would be screaming hoarse" You may wonder.
I had exactly the same
questions in my mind as well.
I think we "don't feel anything wrong" because our excretory system
(liver,
kidneys etc) tries to get rid of the impurities from the blood. But we
do pay the price while they are still in the blood (ie after
every cooked meal) in terms of sub-optimum vim & waste
deposition. These toxic deposits are out of reach of the excretory
system which in turn remains continually overloaded.
The inevitable
consequences pile-up gradually over decades &
eventually snow-ball into "life-style"
maladies (cancer, diabetes, arthritis, heart-disases etc). Just that by
the time
their gory
symptoms show-up, some of the damage is ireversible. Yes, it's
true, many common chronic ailments largely
accrue from a daily onslaught of our enzyme-denuded diet
though we prefer to attribute it to... old age. Alas!
Isn't
that outrageous?
If you are still doubtful then let me ask : How
many of us surviving on a
cooked-food diet can really claim to be performing at the peak
of
our physical potential?
Our bodies may not look unwell from
outside, but
will you atleast agree that there is always room for improvement in
our diet
& consequently in the functioning of most of our
organs (digestive,
circulatory, nervous,
excretory systems etc) as well?
If
we are
what we e@t,
then whatever we are, we can be more.

capsules, are at best only a good compromise

How can you ensure that you
supplement
exactly the right
amount of each
& every enzyme
needed to digest
each & every nutrient in every intake of your enzyme-stripped
food? Every meal is
different.
Any shortfall
will have to
be covered by your body's own reserves
while causing concomitant damage like rouleau
formation
& other

The extra unusedenzymes from
the capsules may not entirely get recycled in the body. They may simply
get
excreted
in the urine (expensive urine, huh?)

But why
bother
growing sprouts at home?
Why not just
buy them off
the shelf?
Indeed you may. With the growing awareness around, I am quite pleased
to see sprouts
being sold not just in
occasional health shops but also in some mainstream super-markets. So
this
surely is a win-win option, except
that :
VARIETY
& NOVELTY : There are
several dozen types of sprouts.
The sprouting
course has by far the
longest list you will ever come across anywhere (~ 70). How many of
them can
you source from the local market? (2-3
at
most!)
SEED
QUALITY : How do you know if
proper seeds were used for sprouting
by the sprout
grower? This is also of vital concern.

SAFETY
: What about the hygiene
& microbial safety of sprouts?
There are many vulnerabilities in the way commercial sprout-farming
is done,
right from germination, storage,
distribution & final delivery. Commercial motives may make the
best of
intentions fuzzy at times. And sprouts
are ideally eaten raw - which means their
germ-profile is of paramount importance. The sprouting course
will teach you a step-wise routine to get rid of these germs. (That
one chapter alone is worth double the
price of the book.)
PRIME
TIME CONSUMPTION : Sprouts
are ideally consumed within a certain time frame. This is when
their enzymerichness
is at their max. (More
about this in the 'Vedic

I have divided the sprouts
into a few groups based on this criterion. Having sprouts in our
plates at their prime may be a bit tricky to orchestrate with
off-the-shelf produce.
SAVINGS
: Ofcourse we pay a much
higher price for commercially grown sprouts (as
compared to home grown). And the
time to go & buy them offsets the little time needed
to grow
them at
home (Yep!
I am talking about those
following my system :-]).
FUN
FACTOR : Sprouting
different kinds of seeds, grains
& beans at home is fun. Kids love it. We get to experiment with
sprouts
in so many interesting ways - for example sprout muesli,
cocktails, harvesting at different stages of growth, greening, juicing
etc.
DIET
CUSTOMIZATION : Food is
medicine. Some sprouts
purportedly
have distinctive benefits under certain health situations. Once you
know
exactly what they are & how to sprout them
easily - you can just stick
with them until the health condition is resolved.
TASTE
PREFERENCES : No matter what
your gustatory inclinations - there are sprouts to match it. Their
taste ranges
from strong to mild, from spicy to sweet, from bland to bitter
& from hot
to earthy. If you haven't experienced sprouts in all their radiant
glory - your
culinary life is incomplete to say the least.
So there we go. Those were my inspirations as well. It's just like
sometimes we
cook at home & sometimes we dine outside. Both have their place
in our life. Actually it's very important to learn sprouting @ home
because that's the easiest way
to have ready access to a much much wider variety of sprouts
including the exotic ones anytime we
want.
There are so many & much better options than the
ubiquitous green
bean & alfalfa sprouts
in the
market. (These
2sproutsare
definitely oversold. I hardly eversprout alfalfa & mung beans for
myself.) You might as well invest your time
in other more
beneficial & tastier super-sprouts for your palate.
Ok,
so now perhaps you
have sort
of
an inkling of an idea about sprouts
... and maybe even a trace of a motivation to probably consider the
remote
possibility of the weak likelihood of actually getting down to the
business of sprouting
at home...sometime in
future when you really
need it.
Wow! You sound unstoppable.
But there are others who may be a bit confronted in
this
moment-of-truth : -
1. Do I have to set up an elaborate
kitchen
garden with pots & sand et
al?
No,
not
really. You don't need anything very
special to start with. No messing around with mud & pots. Plain
water & kitchen utensils will
do. I don't even use any of the typical sprouters
either. I have my own special
technique.
2. Isn't sprouting all
about
soaking seeds in cotton-wool & watching them sprout?
We all did that sometime in our school right?
Well...
in that case all this hoo-ha about a CRASH COURSE
in sprouting
@
home would definitely be over-blown over-the-top. Right?
You may try sprouting on your own &
you will know for yourself.
You can always take the time to ...
Why not? All it will take is some
t-i-m-e...
right?
Not
quite so.
When crops after crops fail - how would you know what exactly were your
mistakes?
One's new-found enthusiasm my not last the grisly sights
of crops
putrefying after all the hard work has been done. I
have already survived that & I know what works, what doesn't -
it can make all the

multiplication - unless they over-grow they are invisible to the naked

misunderstanding, mis-conceptions & incorrect
incomplete info about the sensitive sprouting
process.
Are you clear about the light-exposure rules
in sprouting?
Would you like to find out where to
source pathogen-free
seeds from? Infected seeds are the major cause of food-poisoning
from sprouts.
What are FDA's
recommendations
for
those who sprout
seeds at
home?
The finicky
nuances of the
more whimsical of the seeds so as to cajole them to sprout
successfully (for ex. flaxseed : the richest source of
omega-3
& omega-6 essential fatty acids - much better than
cod liver oil)).
Besides shortening the learning curve it's also
about keeping one's motivation up & going. That happen's when
